SECRETS CAN KILL
The Vampire Diaries*
Take a look at the student bulletin boards in the hallways of the school. Many of them have mini posters of The Vampire Diaries. One of Her Interactive’s
first games!

There is also a CD of the Vampire Diaries game on a desk in the upstairs part of the library.

Some of the songs on the jukebox are also songs from the Vampire Diaries. “Big Girls Don’t Die” is actually
a song called Dawn Map (used for the dawn map in the game). “Blackout” is actually called Morning Map (also used for the morning map) and “Twist and Fall” is actually the closing credits song to the Vampire Diaries. It’s called “
Precious Life.”

In the fiction section of the library, there’s a book called
Vampire Diaries: Behind the Scenes.
McKenzie & Co.*

If you look at the bulletin boards in the hallways of the school. There are some mini posters of McKenzie & Co. Another one of Her Interactive’s first games!

If you look around in the school and diner, you will find many hidden messages.

While visiting Maxine’s Diner, you can listen to the jukebox and play the pinball machine.

The jukebox at Maxine’s Diner is made by WERDYCNAN, which is Nancy Drew spelled backwards.

If you look at the songs on the jukebox. They all have something to do with Jake Rogers.

The soda machine in the office/lobby area has drinks such as POP (which has a Pepsi type of logo), Popsi (obviously, meant as Pepsi), Cool (meant as Coke-a-Cola), and Spot Cola (meant as 7-Up). *

In the office/lobby area and in the library, there are magazine racks with magazines such as TEEN and YOU!. These have real covers of magazines that were put out during ‘97-’98. Such as the cover of YOU! with
Scott Wolf (Party of Five) and Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party of Five, I Know What You Did Last Summer). And a cover of ‘TEEN with Andrew Keegan (Party of Five, 10 Things I Hate About You). *

The end credits song was actually a
rap song, but changed to an instrumental version. *

In the fiction section, same bookshelf as the Vampire Diaries book, there is a book called
The Story of Her Interactive and the Making of Nancy Drew.

In one of the hallways is a ripped piece of paper from the phone book in the study dome. There is an advertisement for “Halmarck” (ie: Hallmark cards & gifts).*

There is a black mug with the Her Interactive logo on it in Lillian’s office.

Another Her Interactive logo can be found in Lillian’s office in her business card holder.

If you look at the cards in Dwayne’s wallet, there is a card with Her Interactive’s logo.

In the Prop Room, if you look around you’ll see a skateboard with the Her Interactive logo.

If you look at the magazines in Mattie’s apartment, you’ll notice Linda Penvellyn (from CUR) is on the cover.

Pick up the script in Mattie’s apartment. On the bottom half the page folder over has “Help me Nancy.” backwards.

If you look through Lillan’s trash on her computer, you will find a script that references Blackmoor Manor.

At WWB, in the studio, the false wall with the orange wallpaper (next to the work table) is the same wallpaper used in Aunt Eloise’s house in SCK. (The wallpaper used in the front hall.) *

The purple mug on Lillian’s desk says “Deception” with a symbol used in DDI. *

Look at Lillian’s bulletin board. She has a mini poster of the Vampire Diaries.

If you look at the shelf where the maracas are, you’ll see boxes for The Vampire Diaries and McKenzie & Co.

Abby has the same magazine (with the article of Mattie) that Mattie has in her apartment.

If you look next to Abby’s crystal ball, you’ll see a jewelry box with a woman on it. It’s the same picture as the one in the safe in FIN.

If you look at Nancy’s purple shirt in her suitcase, the tag says ND.

Abby has the same maracas in her hope chest that Lillian (STFD) had on her shelf.

When Lisa puts her magazine down on the table, you can see Mattie Jenson from STFD. It’s also the same article that was used in STFD, which is in Mattie’s house.

Professor Hotckiss’ typewriter is the same typewriter used in STFD.

Take a look at some of the plaques next to Joanna’s door. There’s some familiar names listed.

Joanna has the same coat as Mattie, Abby, and Professor Hotchkiss. The only difference is that it’s in a different color.

Take notice when Henrik is talking about the Mayan pot. You can choose to say “In the words of Nicholas Falcone, come on, spill it!” Which is a reference to FIN.

Nancy has a background of Togo on her laptop.

In his notebook, Sonny mentions a website where you can get walkthroughs for your ND games.

On one of the statues in the garden there’s a plaque beneath it that reads “Gift of Wickford Estate.” A refrence to TRT.

Emily sells Koko Kringles, first referenced in SSH.

Emily also rents the movies that can be found on the posters in FIN.

There’s a magazine that says, “Armstrong, do we still like him, or what?!” A reference to Brady Armstrong in FIN.

Sally has some of the same stuff on here table that Nick Falcone had on the counter in FIN.

On the package you receive, has a stamp that refers to King Pacal. A reference to SSH.

There’s a magazine on the desk in the area where the dogs are kept, that has a refrence to Brady Armstrong from FIN.

There’s a picture of the train from TRN next to the computer at the ranger station.

Professor Hotchkiss’ purple ski boots are in the shed.

Elliot has a Poppy Dada painting in his office. Poppy Dada is from SSH.

On the directions on the back of the Barnacle Blast game, it says “Fight the Power!” which is what Nick Falcone says in FIN.

On the exit door of Tidal Terror, there’s a red handprint on the door. A reference to SSH.

When you leave Joy a note, the notepad you write on has one of the dogs from DOG on it.

Nancy has tokens from CAR in her suitcase.

There’s a Koko Kringle in the lighthouse. A reference to SSH.

Nancy has a brochure of the Beech Hill Museum in her suitcase. A reference to SSH.

In her suitcase, Nancy has a shirt with a horse on it. The next game to come out was SHA.

The calendar by Nancy’s laptop has two dogs from DOG.

When you’re clamming, Nancy usually says random quotes from some of the other games.

When you’re clamming, Nancy finds a dog bone that says “Malone’s Bones.” A refrence to DOG.

There’s a calendar in the lighthouse that has dogs on it from DOG.

On the Rawley’s bookshelf, all the books are books you organize on Katie’s boat in DDI except for
Like Wind Through My Heart.

One of the books on the bookshelf is called Tidal Terror, which was the name of the rollercoaster in CAR.

When you’re crumbling up the newspapers in the den, the very last one says “Golden Gate Gazette” which is from MHM.

On Jane’s bulletin board, there’s a picture of Brady Armstrong from FIN.

Jane also asks Nancy if she thinks Brady is cute.

In Jane’s hope chest there is a game of Bul purchased from Beech Hill. A reference to SSH.

Nigel has a picture of himself at Wickford Castle on his desktop.

Betty, from the go fish game in the Great Hall, is wearing a brooch that was Dave’s ring in SHA.

On Nancy’s computer it has a wallpaper and screensaver with the Koko Kringle cow and aliens by Sonny. A refrence to SSH.

On Nancy’s computer, it has a desktop icon for Jane’s games, which you can also play. A refrence to CUR.

There’s an email on Nancy’s computer to Minette from Emily Griffen from DOG.

The shirt Nancy wears when she goes scuba diving is the horse shirt from her suitcase in DDI.

There’s a sign next to the Metro that is advertising Koko Kringles. A refrence to SSH.

There’s also the original Nancy silhouette on a sign from games 1-13.

Nancy is heard saying, “Say goodnight, Gracie.” Which is what LouLou from CUR would say to her.

There are many items in Pont Neuf for sale from previous games. Some of them include: a garden gnome (DOG),
the arm from Spook #10 (CAR), a toy train (CLK), a wooden toy plane (CLK), and a golf club (CLK).

LEGEND OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL
I’m not exactly sure if anyone has already mentioned these on the Case Closed board on the HER website (I haven’t been there yet), but here’s
what I found during the three times I played this game.
Game References

If you click on the archway (left) in the minature cemetery, it will play three songs. Two of which are from Secrets Can Kill. Those songs are Feardang (Fear Danger) and Mystlght (Mystery Light).

The painting to the right seems to be quite popular. It is first seen in TRT and then again in CAR, and once more in CRY.

Bruno has a notepad like the one Dexter has in TRT.

Bruno’s death certificate indicates that his body was cremated at Krolmeister Creamatorium.

The doll in Renée’s rocking chair is Naughty Tina from TRN.

When you go through the card catalog, there are two books by previous game characters. The first one is of
Finding Fish by Bill Kessler (ICE) and the second is of
Prudent Living: A Memoir by Prudence Rutherford (SSH, DAN).

Renée’s has a whole stash of Koko Kringle (SSH, DOG, DDI, SHA, DAN) candy bars in the bottom drawer of her nightstand. (Nancy also finally eats one or two or three..)

Professor Hotchkiss (TRT) is a phone character in CRY. She also wrote another book entitled,
The Crystal SKulls: Fact or Fable? as seen in the game.

At Zeke’s there’s a statue of Spartan (CUR), chattering teeth (CUR), a mummy (SSH), and a Hula dancer (CRE).
PHANTOM OF VENICE
Game References

Prudence Rutherford makes her third appearance in VEN. First she was in SSH and DAN (as a telephone contact).

Sorpreso chocolates makes it’s second appearance in VEN. There are some on the table in the Great Hall of Ca’ Nascosta and then
another one shows up later in the game as a gift.*

The skull mask from CRY is seen in the costume room.*

Sonny Joon (SSH, DAN) is mentioned in Helena’s notes.*

Krolmeister (mentioned in several games) is mentioned in Helena’s notes (as an actual person) and again seen mentioned in one of Fango’s emails.*

The carousel horse music box on Fango’s shelf is one of the original horses seen in CAR.*

Nancy’s overhears Margherita mentioning Red Knott (DOG) to Colin and Helena.*

There is a miniature robot (the same one in CLK) in Fango’s filing cabinet.*

When Nancy goes through the dumpster she finds many items from previous games. There is a gnome (DOG), the carousel horse head of Glory (CAR), a snowshoe (ICE), and a can (CLK).*

Colin’s middle name is Mathias. Perhaps a nod to Waldo “Baldo” Mathias in DOG?*

There is a Koko Kringle in Fango’s trash can. There is also one on the table next to the TV in his office.* [I believe there is also a box (perhaps an updated box) of Koko Kringles at the newsstand.]

During a phone conversation with Prudence Rutherford. She mentions a “Minette original.” Obviously, a nod towards DAN.*

Sassy Detective (TRT) magazine makes it’s second appearance in VEN.*

The exotic flowers found on the roof of the Ca’ Nascosta are from the Hilihili Research Compound. When Nancy asks Margherita if she can pick some of them. Margherita tells her that Prudence got them from the Hilihili.*

While out and about locals are heard mentioning a Cafe Jing Jing (DAN) and Tino Balducci (TRN, ICE).*

Samantha Quick is the name Simone Mueller gave Nancy in FIN.

In the outtakes, Bernie the alligator (CRY) makes an appearance.

In Arthur’s room there is a book on one of the shelves that is by Charleena Purcell (SHA, TRN) entitled, “Unlock My Heart.”*

There is a crumbled up Koko Kringles (SSH, DOG, DDI, SHA, DAN) wrapper in front of the fountain on Main Street.*
